Hajo Pirenz

The landscapes of Ireland are a constant source of inspiration – their openness and solitude, their changing light and unpredictable weather.

Hajo Pirenz is particularly drawn to clouds and the way they shape a landscape, creating a different atmosphere from one moment to the next. Working predominantly in black and white allows him to concentrate on light, form, texture and tone.

At the heart of his photography is a sense of observation and patience – taking time and waiting for those moments when land, sky and light come together.

Hajo’s images reflect a deep connection with these places, conveying their quietness and vastness, and the elemental presence of nature. His work has received repeated recognition from Leica Fotografie International (LFI), with photographs selected across a range of categories.

A New Space for Bold Perspectives

Since June 2025, my photography has found a physical home in the heart of Cahersiveen. Across 70 square metres and three showrooms – complemented by a 50-square-metre workshop room – the gallery offers space for large-scale, distilled works shaped by the presence and power of the Atlantic landscape.

Visitors are warmly welcome to explore this new cultural waypoint along the Wild Atlantic Way – a place to pause, to look deeply, and to experience how landscape and print unfold their full intensity.

Hajo Pirenz on the Leica Enthusiast Podcast

Hajo joins the Leica Enthusiast Podcast to speak about his contemplative approach to landscape photography along the Irish coast.
In this episode, he reflects on working with the Leica M11 Monochrom, Leica Q2 Monochrom and Leica S3, and shares insights into process and practice – from the use of tripods and filters to the role of weather, composition, and patience.
It’s a conversation shaped by stillness, black and white imagery, and a deep sensitivity to place – exploring why meaningful photography so often begins with time, discipline, and deliberate choices.

Leica Enthusiast Podcast

The Podcast is a German-language series dedicated to photography shaped by the unmistakable Leica spirit.
Presented by Michel Birnbacher, the podcast offers in-depth conversations with a diverse range of visual artists and creative minds, each sharing how they found their way into photography and what continues to shape their work. Rather than centring purely on equipment, these dialogues open up a broader perspective – touching on creative thinking, personal stories, and the unique sensibility that surrounds the Leica universe.

Tune in to the latest episode featuring Hajo and immerse yourself in an inspiring conversation.
